October 20, 2026 — launch entries

• Florida finder cap — corrected before launch. Secondary sources (and the first draft of our research) carried Florida's finder fee as 15%/25%. That text was repealed before 2005. The current Fla. Stat. §717.135 caps a finder at 20% per account, $1,000 total per account. Every page, the checker, and the kit use the current text. This is the standing lesson behind our quarterly statute-currency checks: fee and cap law changes, and the web keeps the old text alive.
• California cap citation. The small-estate threshold is the Probate Code §13100 figure as published by the Judicial Council on form DE-300, banded by date of death (§13101 is the affidavit-contents section — early research drafts conflated the two). The checker computes by band.
• Verification limits. Four rows were verified against primary text at build: CA, TX, NY, FL (plus Arizona's finder rule from the Department of Revenue). Every other state's cap cell is flagged UNVERIFIED on the dataset page — figures rest on the statute as commonly published and are queued for the quarterly primary-text pass. Where a state has no simple affidavit lane (GA, MS, and others), the row says so rather than inventing a cap.
• Program doors. All 51 official URLs were checked at build. Most returned live; several state portals refuse automated checks from our build machine (among them Arkansas, Colorado, Louisiana, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Vermont, and New Hampshire's treasury site). Those URLs are the programs' canonical public addresses as corroborated by NAUPA and state publications, and are kept — with this note — rather than swapped for unofficial mirrors.
• Scale figures. The $4.25B returned (FY2025) and 1-in-7 figures are NAUPA's. The ~$70B total-held figure is a NAUPA-derived estimate, not an audited number, and is labeled as an estimate wherever it appears. The ~$100 median claim figure comes from secondary roundups and is flagged as such on the hub page.

How corrections work here

Every page carries a "checked" date. The dataset is re-verified quarterly: California's cap re-indexes on its cycle (next band change April 1, 2028), finder-fee statutes get a currency check each pass (Florida is the reason), and unverified rows are upgraded as their primary texts are read. When a source changes, the dataset, the checker, and this log change together.
